News Flash!

Okay, I got preoccupied with being in charge of the Paso Robles Community Art Project which is sponsored by the Paso Robles Downtown Main Street Association. We are replacing all the wine barrel planters (over 100) in downtown Paso Robles with wine barrels painted by local artists.  We are currently halfway through the project with close to 50 barrels painted and in place.

I've had several other projects going at the same time, including doing the art and layout for the Olive and Lavender Festival posters and I just finished a commission for Travel Paso that everyone can see at the Mid State Fair.

Therefore, I have not updated or posted for quite some time!  So the news flash is this: I will once again be moving my studio this time to a location downtown at 1030 Railroad St. Suite 103 (the space formerly occupied by Dot's 1890 House Framing Shop. The space will be a working studio and also a gallery of my work , a room for the barrel painting project,  I will also have another artist working in one of the rooms and the third room will be my jewelry making area.

I will be posting more details as the date for the move gets closer and I will be announcing my Grand Opening and hours.  I look forward to seeing everyone in my new space that will be much more accessible for people visiting downtown Paso Robles.

I have been going through the designs I made when I was licensing and found so many that I
love that I had to sit down and prepare the files so that they could be applied to products.
There are silly critters, funny fish, rainbow frogs and many more.  Now that I have grandchildren,
I can't wait to have products made to give them.  Here is the link to my shop on
Threadless : https://laurecarlisle.threadless.com/ AND here is a code for FREE SHIPPING! FREESHIPb4f8e5
I hope you enjoy these designs - they are quite different from my fine art!

So here it is - my pop art style creation that I am calling "Because I'm Happy"
Acrylic on Canvas

Today I worked on an painting on paper that wants to be called "Perpetual Motion" - it just feels like some part of a machine that is in motion.  I have one area that I need to work out and then I may be finished.  Once again, it is full of bright, vivid colors but also a lot of visual texture and drawing.

I also wanted to announce that on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from Noon to 3, I am offering an open
Jewelry Workshop. The fee is $20.  Bring your jewelry projects and you can use all of my equipment as well as get help with design, techniques and problem solving.

New studio location and getting the creativity back!

10/2/2016

Hi friends,
A lot has happened in the last 6 months!  First, I had total knee replacement in both knees, 7 weeks apart.  The surgery and healing process really sapped my creativity and it was a slow process getting it back!
Kate and I left the gallery/studio space in Atascadero and have a new location in Paso Robles that is working/teaching space only.  We are loving it!  I moved all of my equipment and tools into the new studio so I can now paint, fuse glass, work in titanium and make jewelry all in one location. I moved one load at a time with the help of John and Brandon and was able to arrange everything step by step. It was  fun being able to re-organize and go through things as I found a place for them.  (I just need to remember where I put everything!)  There are still somethings left in our garage and I will gradually bring them up.
I had tried repeatedly to do a large acrylic painting after the knees - what a disaster! After painting the entire canvas over 4 times, I just let it sit with the last ugly version staring me in the face everyday!  I didn't want anyone to see it and think that that was all I was capable of!!!! Finally, I figured out what was bothering me so much (I knew it was only a start but...)  It was too tight and dare I say precious?  Well I am now very close to being finished - just a few touch ups and tweeks.  It has a strong pop art and almost cartoonish feel but I really am liking it, at last!
